I have been a loyal fan and customer of Target for decades. Back when I was a kid, we did a lot of our shopping at Target before it had the image it has today. Since I am from Texas, I also know and love Neiman Marcus. Needless to say that when I heard that Target and Neiman Marcus were collaborating to bring some great holiday gifts from some of the most well-known designers, I was elated and marked my calendar for December 1st. Okay, I should be a little more honest with everyone…I was elated and slightly panicked. I do not like crowds and I am not an aggressive shopper (in fact I tend to want to hide rather than relish a sample sale). Ever since Target’s first Go International designer collaboration with Luella Bartley, I remember trying to grab a few pieces and coming up short – out of stock, sold out in minutes. Who remembers the server crash when they lauched their collaboration with Missoni?! Well, this time around, I didn’t need to worry.
On the night before, I researched the 50-piece collection, identified items I wanted to buy and decided to shop online early to get what’s on my list and then go to the store in the afternoon to see what is left at a leisurely pace. How early did I shop? Would you believe at 3 AM?! Before you judge, I didn’t wait up all that time to see when they would launch the sale online, instead I had an unscheduled wake-up call via text message from my brother-in-law. My sister was in labor with their first born and after getting such exciting news, I couldn’t just go back to sleep. So I did the next best thing, I got online and scored a bunch of great stuff before finally getting back to bed – Thanks Baby Max!
From past collaborations, I haven’t been entirely impressed with the quality and would forego purchasing most of the time. However, I will say from the upfront examination I did at the store, the quality is way better on most products (oh how I wish I had a reason to buy a Derek Lam skateboard!). From my in-store shopping excursion, I bought some great gifts for friends and family including the Tory Burch lunchbox and thermos set, Phillip Crangi picture frames, Tracy Reese dessert plates, and the boy version of the Rag and Bone sweater (precious!!!).
I think the biggest value from the entire collection are the Tracy Reese dessert plates. The plates are made of ceramic and the rim is 18K gold, they make great hostess gifts. As you can see, I kept a set for myself and put them to good use!
If you feel that you are late to the game, don’t worry, there is still plenty left at both Target and Neiman Marcus. Both sites offer the same items and pricing but Target also has free shipping over $50. There are so many great pieces (I didn’t get to mention them all), they are like Pokemon – gotta catch ’em all!
