A large, voluminous, pleated skirt can be a scary piece of clothing. If paired improperly, one can look a bit frumpy. I found this beautiful flouncy high volume skirt at H&M. I loved the shape, size, and texture. The key to wearing a skirt like this is to ensure that it hits you at the narrowest part of your body. This will most likely be higher up on the waist near the rib cage. As a result, it creates a great hourglass shape while keeping you slender.
When wearing something large and in charge like this skirt, the top needs to be simple and more form fitting. I chose this black wool sweater with a little bling at the cuffs. You can’t go wrong with jewels and having this embellishment served as a proxy for jewelry. For accessories, I used a cosmetic case (thank you Gilt City Warehouse Sale) as a clutch and my lucite wedges for a bit of edge. The day was a bit windy but fortunately, the skirt stood up to the challenge…literally!
