During our time in Koh Samui, a Japanese couple asked us to take a photo of them. I expected it to be a normal camera but much to my surprise, they used a compact Polaroid. As a thank you, they took a picture of me and my husband and left us with a little memento. This one made business card-sized photos and given its small size and instant nature, the exposure reminded me of an Instagram filter.

Seeing the Polaroid shot and remembering this collage that I have been coveting, inspired an idea…wouldn’t it be great to take many pictures with an instant camera and create your very own physical Instagram collage? How cute would that be?!

The original inspiration shows how to create a collage in a single frame, but here’s a different twist for creating your own photo collage using “old-fashion” physical Polaroids and some hanging wires and clips. By using clips, you give your pictures a third dimension and an art installation feel. If this seems like too much work or you just really in love the pictures you have already taken with Instagram, here’s a site that lets you print out 50-400 of your Instagram photos on a large poster for a really reasonable price. Just print and frame, it doesn’t get easier than that!
