A few weeks ago, I shared my elation over a new pair of patterned pumps from J. Crew (now on sale!). I wouldn’t call myself a huge pattern person, but the floral and studs just won me over. It can be scary to take the plunge into a trend or style that you aren’t normally used to, especially if it requires a moderate investment. When you find yourself in that situation, remember to apply the Rule of Three. It works well in writing (“Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness), in advertisements (“Location, location, location”) and it’s also effective in making a decision on that unique piece you have been coveting. If you can think of three things you can wear with it, then go for it! Here are three ways to wear a floral patterned pump that go beyond a basic white tee and jeans.
Mix Patterns. It may be counter intuitive to mix a strong piece like a floral pump with another pattern, but finding a subtle, abstract print in a matching color can enhance a statement piece, not overpower it.
Pair With Jewel Tones. An aubergine color, though not a direct color match, complements the pink in the shoes quite nicely. A neutral lace top adds texture and interest but does not compete for attention.
Choose Leather. I think leather goes with almost anything, but in this case a neutral dress in caramel with a leather embellishment makes the look a little less expected.
