I wrote a post last month about different ways to wear a studded and floral patterned heel. It was a helpful exercise to maximize the return on a substantial shoe investment. In the second installation of the Rule of Three: The Patterned Pump, I explore ways to wear J. Crew’s Everly Pump (sadly now sold out but similar here and here).

This style of shoe is oh-so-gorgeous with its embellishments and brocade pattern. You may think this shoe can only be worn at weddings and cocktail parties, but when you apply the rule of three, you’ll find that it can work for many different occasions. Here are three ways to glam up daytime looks with these jeweled beauties.

[Zara Shirt / J. Crew Skirt / Longchamp Bag / Vintage Brooch]

Go Prep. These shoes can be a perfect complement to everyday staples like a denim shirt and pencil skirt. By matching the color tones of the shoe, especially the more muted colors, this is a perfect outfit for work without being over the top. You can enhance the sparkles on your feet by adding a brooch to your collar or wearing a jeweled cuff.

[Zara Top and Coat / Hudson Jeans / Phillip Lim x Target Handbag / Angora Hat via Lollipop NYC (similar here)]

Go Street. This may seem like an unexpected match, but pairing something glamorous with something more inherently “rough” and street creates balance in a look. Again, by taking colors in the same tone, a knit top, a pair of jeans, leather coat, and a gray angora hat are great supporting pieces.

[Crop Top via Nordstrom (last seen here) / H&M Skirt (last seen here) / Zara Leather Jacket / Vintage Clutch / David Yurman and Greece Ring]

Go Girly. If all else fails, wearing something feminine to match the femininity of these shoes, is an easy and dependable approach. A high volume skirt adds drama without taking away attention from the main attraction. If this is “too girly”, add some edge by wearing a leather jacket…and rings, lots of cocktail rings!

    1. Thanks so much! The skirt is making multiple appearances over the holidays! Same for you I presume?

As for the shoes, J crew does have some new ones out that are just as fun…I can’t talk myself into anymore new shoes(at least for a week 🙂 )

      1. I need your will power… I just found an amazing pair of boots on Zara and am doing my best to resist. I am going to have to check out J. Crew.

…and yes I wear this skirt far too often but you know how comfortable it is:)

  1. These shoes really are spectacular! I could see myself quickly falling into the trap of styling them one way only but I love all of your ideas – so diverse but they all work so well.
