When decorating your living space, one should approach it like picking out an outfit.   Many times I would see all dark finished wood or only one style of furniture in someone’s living room (equate that to matchy match shoes, purse and belt – boring) and it had me thinking…you would never limit yourself to one look or genre so why do that to your home? Using pieces from Modani Modern Furniture and yours truly as a test case, here is a quick guide to styling a living room that is perfectly you.

  • Create a foundation. Structured, non-fussy clothing is my usual preference so I go for a modern and clean lined couch in a neutral light gray fabric.
  • Layer the “outfit”. Like a vest or a blazer, layering can give your room texture.  I choose whimsical pillows to bring a little personality.  Additionally, given that I lean more towards a more masculine and edgy look, I add accent furniture with wood tones and sharp angles.
  • Accessorize with a statement. Last but not least, accessories! I normally use accessories sparingly, so pop of color and/or large black and white photography can really give your room visual interest without having the rest of the room competing for attention.

It’s all about personal style and preference so don’t let a blank slate be intimidating.  Got any tips on how you reflect your style in your home?  Share them here or on Facebook.
