Digital Artifacts

SEE LARK! | Digital Artifacts

When my parents visited Taiwan they found some old photographs at my grandmother’s place. During one of our Facetime dates with A, my father showed me a few pictures of when I was little, some of which I don’t remember seeing before.  It got me thinking about today’s technology and how photos can be instantly shared with a click of a button.  While the instant gratification is a benefit, it makes me sad to think about losing that experience of uncovering old photographs in a box years or decades later.  Additionally, given the rapid pace of innovation, we don’t really know what the longevity of digital photos will be given how storage devices and online photo sharing sites can become obsolete or go out of business.

Perhaps it’s a generational thing, but I have a soft spot for physical photographs.  Now that I have a family of my own, I want to leave behind artifacts that can be discovered over and over again by future generations.  If you feel the same way, here are ways to preserve your memories in the digital age. Hey Momma, You’re Not Alone!

I haven’t been able to devote as much time to the blog lately. Life has been (and continues to be) hectic with a baby and now returning to work. I previously had more free time to share all the fun and cool things I encountered – a new outfit, decorating a room, or travel to a cool place. When I became pregnant, I thought it was a great space to share and promote baby bump styles. I have always purposefully kept things light hearted and geared towards the sunny side of life…because who wants to hear me complain? Then A arrived and you know what? Q + A With Fit Fab Mommy

One of the great benefits of blogging is the people you meet through the experience. I met Melissa of Fit Fab Mommy when she reached out to me to do a post about becoming a new mom. First, I was completely flattered because I am just winging it on most all days. Secondly, I was greatly appreciative of the advice and anecdotes she shared with me about when she first became a parent. I instantly felt at ease and Melissa was totally relatable.

It’s hard being a new mom and hopefully what I have learned thus far can help others. Check out the Q + A here!

Ten Things Accomplished During Maternity Leave

SEE LARK! | Ten Things Accomplished While On Maternity Leave

This expression about sums up my feelings about leaving my little one next week when I return to work. I am looking forward to having adult conversations, drinking a cup of coffee without interruption, and wearing something other than jeans; however, my heart aches to not see this face until the end of the day. As I look back at my first four months as a mother, I see an increasing level of confidence in me to care for him while giving him independence to learn new things. For the not-so-serious side of becoming a new parent, here are ten things I proudly accomplished while on leave. Continue reading “Ten Things Accomplished During Maternity Leave”

Post Pregnancy Essentials

SEE LARK! | Post Pregnancy Essentials

I am now seven weeks into motherhood and every week is a new challenge.  Just when I think I have the hang of things and understand my little one, he throws me a curve ball.  All the while, you are still healing, creating a major sleep deficit, and trying to shed that baby weight.  I will admit, there are days where I am completely exhausted and my outlook is not so optimistic.  However, when he coos and smiles at me, all my troubles are forgotten!  To get me through the tough times, I have created my top five must-haves for post-pregnancy.  This list has nothing to do with baby and everything to do with mommy.  These five things help keep me sane, informed, and somewhat stylish while on maternity leave. Lessons Learned In The First Two Weeks Of Motherhood

SEE LARK! | The First Two Weeks Of Motherhood

I can’t believe it’s been two weeks since Baby Asher joined (and rocked) our world. So much has changed since his arrival. In fact I write this in bits and pieces via iPhone during late night feedings. Prior to his arrival, we had a lot of information and prep classes available to us. Upon delivery, we received more information on what the first two weeks would look like and tips to cope. I completely appreciated the advice but also found that it created some low grade anxiety. I would succumb to a “the book says” rationale and not rely on my own instincts. As a result, I have developed a list of my learnings from that first two weeks to help manage (and hopefully help other soon-to-be mothers’) expectations. Pardon The Interruption

SEE LARK! | Pardon The Interruption

Howdy folks! You may have noticed that I have been a little absent in the past week.  Our little man decided to greet us a little earlier than his due date. Pardon the hiatus as hubby and I learn to take care of another human being!  On this day before Thanksgiving, we have so much to be thankful for and I wish you all the best for you and your family.

Star Themed Baby Shower

SEE LARK!| Star Themed Baby Shower

My sweet friend Kylee planned a “twinkle twinkle little star” themed baby shower for an intimate party of six this past weekend.  I loved the little touches of star fruits, confetti and garland.  There was even a star pinata. Unfortunately, I didn’t get a chance to a take picture of it before the smashing commenced, but you can see the aftermath here.  Additionally, the blue hydrangeas, cocktails of Prosecco and Blue Curacao, and navy blue nail polish party favors (Essie’s Style Cartel) were a stylish nod to a baby boy.  I am feeling very thankful for friends and loved ones who took time to pull an event together and time out of their busy day for a little quality time. What a perfect afternoon! Continue reading “Star Themed Baby Shower”

The T Room At Forty Five Ten

SEE LARK! | Forty Five Ten

It was a quick but fulfilling trip back to my home state of Texas this past weekend.  I had the pleasure of catching up with some good friends at an intimate baby shower brunch in Dallas.  The venue was The T Room at Forty Five Ten.  Forty Five Ten is where I purchased my first investment piece of clothing and was excited to see how this designer boutique has transformed since its beginnings.  Other than offering high end pieces (think Lanvin and Dior) jewelry, and menswear, this place also has a little brunch/lunch place for people to mingle – a perfect venue for a shower.  Here are a few highlights of all the eye candy (food and fashion) that kept us there for 3+ hours. Eat. Shop. Do.

SEE LARK! | Eat. Shop. Do.

I am a little over halfway through my pregnancy and started to feel those first kicks about a week ago…it is an AMAZING feeling! Suddenly, this is for real…hubby and I are going to be responsible for another human being <gulp>.  Now that major work milestones have been accomplished and the vacation has been taken, it’s time to get ready for baby. I’ll be de-junking the spare room and scouring the Internet for fashionable accessories and shoes (since clothes shopping is now proving to be more difficult).  Cheers to the weekend!
