DC Eats

I looked at the calendar and realized I have been living in DC for 10 years now and wonder if Texas has revoked my statehood card. Regardless, DC has really changed in that time span, including its taste palette. No longer do you have to go to New York or San Francisco for good food, DC eats are up there with the best of them. If you are planning a visit to our nation’s capital, here are a few of my favorites to check out.

The Filtered Life

SEE LARK! | The Filtered Life

Summer is here…I repeat, summer is here! Even though work is still really hectic, prolonged daylight and warm weather makes it hard to be grumpy and sulky.  Here’s a summary of what has me excited as told through Instagram. Continue reading “The Filtered Life”

A couple of weeks ago, I proclaimed my love for the W and asked for recommendations on summer vacation destinations.  Well, I am happy to report that the procrastination has ended and hubby and I have finally decided on Vieques Island, Puerto Rico where, yes you guessed it, there is a fabulous W Retreat.  As fate would have it, right after we booked our travel and accommodations, an episode of House Hunters International came on where a couple was looking to buy a place on Vieques. Eat. Shop. Do.

I am counting down the days until Memorial Day. Well, if I were to be completely honest, I am counting down the days until July 9th. Why the 9th and not the 4th? Because that is when the big meeting I have been working towards since, oh I don’t know, January, will finally be over. I feel like I have been complaining a lot about work these days, sorry about that guys!   Continue reading “Eat. Shop. Do.”

An Ode To Coffee

I never had a cup of coffee until after college, yes you heard me right, *after* college. Back in the day, I would frequent Sweet Eugene’s in College Station, TX  to study and grab a chocolate chip muffin and a glass of milk but never touched the java. Nowadays when I take that first sweet sip in the morning, I think how did I ever live without it? Oh coffee, how do I love thee? Let me count the ways… Continue reading “An Ode To Coffee”

Charleston Part Deux

My first trip to Charleston, South Carolina was for a friend’s wedding.  The visit was sweet but definitely too short.  Therefore, I was excited to return spending the weekend exploring the city.  This southern town is beautiful and rich in history, but did you know that it has also been consistently voted one of the top cities in the US and even one of the top destinations globally? Well, I can see why.  The city offers a wide variety of sights, activities, and delicious eats…here’s are a few highlights. Continue reading “Charleston Part Deux”

Speak Easy To Me

[Den of Thieves / Awesome selection of cocktails and absolutely wonderful music]

I have been living in DC for almost 10 years and it’s amazing to see the city change since my arrival from the Lone Star State. People always say that New York and San Francisco has great food and drink, but I do believe that DC has some serious street cred in this category. Continue reading “Speak Easy To Me”

For The Love Of Tex-Mex

A visit back to Texas always means a chance to sample great food that is quite frankly not available anywhere else in the world.  I’m specifically thinking about Tex-Mex.  I have searched high-low for a good substitute for the past 10 years and have learned that it’s hard to find anything quite like it outside of the state.   Continue reading “For The Love Of Tex-Mex”

Oui Weekend

[Le Diplomate Bar]

This past weekend, my adventures in DC had an unintentional Parisian flair. I had a chance to try new places in my current and old (and much missed) neighborhood. I started with a Friday night dinner at Le Grenier in the bustling H St. Corridor where the decor was beautifully ecletic and the food superbly delicious. Continue reading “Oui Weekend”

At-Home Gourmet

[Crab Cake Salad – Spring mix greens, bell peppers, avocado, and blanched haricot vert]

I would like to take a moment to give a shout out to my awesome sister. As I mentioned in my previous posts (here and here), my sister lives in Austin and recently had a baby boy. On top of motherhood and returning to work, she manages to find time to make beautiful, delicious, and healthy meals. Continue reading “At-Home Gourmet”
