Tulip Dress

SEE LARK! | Tulip Dress

I have discovered the perfect dress and it comes in the form of Hatch’s tulip dress.  It tapers out and then back in at the hem, creating a draped/blousey effect that would look great on any figure.  I used to have this mental block about wearing anything “maternity”, I mean why would I *seek* out maternity wear if I wasn’t expecting?  I think it was even a commandment on What Not To Wear, “Thou shalt not wear pregnancy clothing when not pregnant”.   Continue reading “Tulip Dress”

Late Summer

SEE LARK! | Late Summer

As much as I am looking forward to Fall, I am trying to soak up as much of Summer as I can.  Straw hats and short dresses are the epitome of a lazy, “nothing to do”, warm August afternoon.  I choose an all black ensemble.  I know what you are thinking, isn’t that reserved for colder months and New Yorkers?  Noir get-ups can totally work for Summer, just look for lighter fabrics and pieces appropriate for the weather in question (i.e., sandals instead of knee high boots, but you are all smart and probably already knew that!).  This shirt dress was light and airy, perfect for disguising the salad with buerre blanc sance and a side of fries I consumed at lunch.  Oops. Stars, Stripes and Surprise

SEE LARK! | Stars, Stripes and Surprise

July 4th festivities were last week but I can’t help but carry forward the stars and stripes theme just a wee bit longer. I don’t know if anyone has noticed, but my recent outfit posts have been more on the “blousy” side. That’s because I have an ever-growing mid section.  I am excited to share that hubby and I are expecting our first child in early December! Continue reading “Stars, Stripes and Surprise”

A Little Boho

SEE LARK! | A Little Boho

Bohemian is definitely one word that would not describe my everyday style. With that said, it can be easy to ignore an entire style genre and miss out on something great.  So I went out of my comfort zone and took a chance on these slouchy harem pants with an abstract print and tassels. Continue reading “A Little Boho”

Morocco Meets LA

SEE LARK! | Morocco Meets LA

On the weekends, I reach for a t-shirt and jeans. I love wearing basics but sometimes basics can get a little blah. When in a rut, don’t throw the baby out with the bathwater.  Continue reading “Morocco Meets LA”

Eat. Shop. Do.

SEE LARK! | Eat. Shop. Do. | H&M Conscious Collection

Okay, I’ll admit this week was pretty good. Miss Grumpy Pants (me) begrudgingly admits the sky didn’t fall this week. It started off with lots o’ rain but now DC will have at least three days with 70+ degree weather in the forecast…hurrah!  The cherry blossoms are blooming and the days are getting longer and brighter. There is just something about Spring that keeps your mood in check and all of a sudden, the glass is half full. Here are some ideas on how to celebrate your weekend. Continue reading “Eat. Shop. Do.”

A Pant for All Seasons

city-1, banana republic, slouchy pants

Wouldn’t you know that after my public proclamation for favoring skirts and dresses that I get into a pants-wearing mood?! Truth be told, I do tend to go for jeans or trousers when I am not at work, anything that allows me to sit cross legged and provides comfort.   On a recent road trip with my hubby, I wore a pair of slouchy pants by Banana Republic.   Continue reading “A Pant for All Seasons”

High Low Striped Top

I love a good striped top.  Though considered a classic, black and white stripes seem to have made their mark in this year’s spring collections. While perusing Tibi’s new arrivals, I discovered this distressed striped top.  At $225, this top has a slight boxy effect and subtle cut-outs in the collar. Not to be outdone, H&M’s latest collection also has a wonderful striped top at$35. Continue reading “High Low Striped Top”

French Navy

The combination of a pea coat and stripes is what I imagine Camera Obscura’s Tracyanne Campbell wearing when she sings “French Navy“. On a cold crisp day, layers are essential so on comes the knit shirt, cardigan, and coat.  I just love how a bright orangey red mixes with leather, studs, and black and white stripes.   Continue reading “French Navy”

Ivory Tower

An all-white outfit can be intimidating.  Sometimes, all I see are potential stains and an unforgiving color, but with a slight tweak in mindset, I see this look in a different (white) light. Continue reading “Ivory Tower”
