Birthday Wishlist

img_7311

January is typically not anyone’s favorite month. Everyone is coming off the holiday highs and Spring is still in the distant future. January birthday babies are probably the only exception to this feeling. Every year, I remind myself that my birthday follows shortly after New Year’s and the fun doesn’t end. When family members ask what I would like for my birthday, I never know the answer. My wants range from “of the moment” needs to things that are super expensive (a girl can dream). Nowadays, I think more carefully since a gift needs some practicality or it will be left unused. So I curated a small set of favorites that meet both function and luxury. Continue reading “Birthday Wishlist”

My Obsession With Stripes

At the last count, I think I own about six or seven striped tops and dresses. Stripes have become my go-to pattern and I can always spot enough variation to justify the purchase of a new piece. The newest one is from J. Crew and incredibly soft and warm.  So far, I have worn it with a blazer for work, with jeans on the weekend, and most recently with a skirt for family photos (A approves!). Peekaboo

SEE LARK! | Peekaboo

Playing peekaboo is a popular past time in my household these days.  As a result, it made sense that my summer wardrobe reflect the same playfulness.  This dress from Madewell is the perfect apparel version of the game.  Its subtle cut-out allows you to bare just a bit of torso, which for one who doesn’t like to show a lot of midriff was just enough to feel fun and sophisticated.  PS…it has pockets!!! Dinner Date

SEE LARK! | Dinner Date

The husband and I planned a dinner date on short notice this past weekend. It wasn’t until after the reservation was made that I realized our wedding anniversary was coming up. Therefore, it was our anniversary dinner!  These days I need to be able to get ready quick so I slipped on this shift dress. It’s light and airy…just what is needed on a warm night. Is This Normcore?

SEE LARK! | Normcore

I learned the term “Normcore” last year when it blew up the fashion world. It describes an “anti-style” style, think bland, non-descript clothing.  Some may argue that it’s not a trend all. Regardless, I have embraced more basics into my wardrobe making it easy to get dressed in the morning. Normcore or not, it’s definitely practical and stylish. Continue reading “Is This Normcore?”

Utility Player

SEE LARK! | Utility Player

An anorak or utility-style jacket is a great piece for Spring since it provides just enough warmth on a windy day. I scored this beauty on Poshmark a couple of months ago but haven’t had the chance to wear it until this weekend. I made a minor modification with the built-in belt.  It actually belongs on the bottom with a few threads sewn in to keep it in tact.  Since I couldn’t imagine myself wearing a belt (or let it hang unbelted) that low, I snipped it free and brought up to the waist.  It’s perfect with jeans and slacks, but I also think it would look great with a midi or maxi- length dress. Old Is New

SEE LARK! | Old Is New

It’s been awhile since my last outfit post.  The frigid weather and my preference for sweatpants during winter time was not a pretty sight.  Dare I say that Spring has finally arrived in DC and so has the return of most of my pre-baby wardrobe.  I was excited to be able to put on my favorite black denim and v-neck tee.  It will be interesting to see what becomes part of the rotation now that I strive for simple and quick looks (hence chopping of my locks!). How To Style Kicks

I love high heels and practically lived in them until recently. Let’s face it, city living plus bumpy sidewalks equals aching feet. Factor in a new baby and I have come to terms that flats, specifically sneakers, are probably a good idea. I had always felt that sneakers were too sporty to wear outside of the gym until I figured out a few tricks for making them look more polished.  Here are some key pieces that can up the style notch to your kicks. How To Wear Color

SEE LARK! | How To Wear Color

If you are anything like me, you find comfort in neutral colors. Gray, black, white, and brown will never treat you badly. However, it can be fun to wear color every now and then. Here are some ways to incorporate color into your wardrobe. Continue reading “How To Wear Color”

Fuel The Fire

SEE LARK! | Fuel The Fire

I have been loving the workout clothing options at Old Navy.  Oh no, it’s not what you think…I like their workout tees to wear casually, not to actually work out (I joke)!  It’s hard to banish these clever tees to only the gym since they work so well under a blazer and jeans.  Throw on a pair of heels and you are ready for happy hour…er once you are done running that is.
