Peekaboo

SEE LARK! | Peekaboo

Playing peekaboo is a popular past time in my household these days.  As a result, it made sense that my summer wardrobe reflect the same playfulness.  This dress from Madewell is the perfect apparel version of the game.  Its subtle cut-out allows you to bare just a bit of torso, which for one who doesn’t like to show a lot of midriff was just enough to feel fun and sophisticated.  PS…it has pockets!!! Dinner Date

SEE LARK! | Dinner Date

The husband and I planned a dinner date on short notice this past weekend. It wasn’t until after the reservation was made that I realized our wedding anniversary was coming up. Therefore, it was our anniversary dinner!  These days I need to be able to get ready quick so I slipped on this shift dress. It’s light and airy…just what is needed on a warm night. Utility Player

SEE LARK! | Utility Player

An anorak or utility-style jacket is a great piece for Spring since it provides just enough warmth on a windy day. I scored this beauty on Poshmark a couple of months ago but haven’t had the chance to wear it until this weekend. I made a minor modification with the built-in belt.  It actually belongs on the bottom with a few threads sewn in to keep it in tact.  Since I couldn’t imagine myself wearing a belt (or let it hang unbelted) that low, I snipped it free and brought up to the waist.  It’s perfect with jeans and slacks, but I also think it would look great with a midi or maxi- length dress. Old Is New

SEE LARK! | Old Is New

It’s been awhile since my last outfit post.  The frigid weather and my preference for sweatpants during winter time was not a pretty sight.  Dare I say that Spring has finally arrived in DC and so has the return of most of my pre-baby wardrobe.  I was excited to be able to put on my favorite black denim and v-neck tee.  It will be interesting to see what becomes part of the rotation now that I strive for simple and quick looks (hence chopping of my locks!). How To Style Kicks

I love high heels and practically lived in them until recently. Let’s face it, city living plus bumpy sidewalks equals aching feet. Factor in a new baby and I have come to terms that flats, specifically sneakers, are probably a good idea. I had always felt that sneakers were too sporty to wear outside of the gym until I figured out a few tricks for making them look more polished.  Here are some key pieces that can up the style notch to your kicks. Post Holiday Sequins

SEE LARK! | Post Holiday Sequins

We are all probably experiencing a little bit of the post-holiday blues.  Gifts are all unwrapped, the last champagne has been consumed, and you are packing away your sequins/glitter/feathered garments for next year’s holiday events. Good news folks…you don’t have to pack away your festive wear.  There are great ways to incorporate these pieces in the new year.  Case in point, look at the sequins leggings.  It’s dressy yet practical for more than the occasional cocktail party. This is especially true for the pair I scored from Boutique Chic Auctions.  I am usually wary of sequins since the backside can be scratchy against the skin; however, this pair has a warm and cozy lining and the best part is that it’s super budget-friendly.  I dressed them down for daytime wear with an oversized “boyfriend” shirt which is my go-to top these days. Thank Goodness For Sweatpants

SEE LARK! | Thank Goodness For Sweatpants

As the title of this post indicates, I am grateful for sweatpants.  I am also thankful for the fact that it is appropriate these days to wear sweatpants out in public (with the right styling of course). The stretch and comfort are a postpartum lady’s best friend and with the vast selection of styles and price points, gives me plenty of variety to choose from.  This harem style made by Gap Body is a current staple of mine, perfect for a stroll in the park with the little one. French Navy

french-navy-1, stripes, french, nautical, layers, streetstyle

The combination of a pea coat and stripes is what I imagine Camera Obscura’s Tracyanne Campbell wearing when she sings “French Navy“. On a cold crisp day, layers are essential so on comes the knit shirt, cardigan, and coat.  I just love how a bright orangey red mixes with leather, studs, and black and white stripes.   Continue reading “French Navy”

Ladylike

full-brim-1

My weekend outfit usually consists of a silk shirt and jeans.  It’s a functional combination that doesn’t require much thought and, when the mood strikes you, can be a great foundation for a “fancier” look.  Think satin shoes, structured tote, and a floppy fedora. Continue reading “Ladylike”
